THE GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN BATTLES THE PINK ROBOTS

The Gonzo Daily - Monday

I have once again been recording with Mike Davis, and another two songs are pretty well there. One of them is still awaiting some vocals from Liz but with a little luck and a fair wind the other will be up on YouTube later today. I have several musical projects on the go at the moment, which considering my rapidly increasing deafness is mildly ironic, and I think that this forthcoming year will be when I finally start my long considered project of a musical equivalent of CFZ Press. Later today I am interviewing the massively talented Don Falcone from Spirits Burning, and sometime this week (but for the life of me I can't remember when) I am interviewing Mark Murdock. And tomorrow Max arrives for the ring in the new ring out the old bit. Sometime before then I have to write my CFZ Annual Report for 2013. Who said this was a relaxed time of year?

*  The Gonzo Daily is a two-way process. If you have any news or want to write for us, please contact me at  jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and want to showcase your work or even just say hello, please write to me at gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it raining. See you tomorrow....

*  The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine (mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The same team also do a weekly newsletter called - imaginatively - The Gonzo Weekly. Find out about it at this link: www.gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.com/2012/11/all-gonzo-news-wots-fit-to-print.html

* We should probably mention here that some of our posts are links to things we have found on the internet that we think are of interest. We are not responsible for spelling or factual errors in other people's websites. Honest guv!

*  Jon Downes, the editor of all these ventures (and several others), is an old hippy of 54 who - together with his orange cat (who is currently on sick leave in Staffordshire) and two very small kittens (one of whom is also orange) - puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon, which he shares with various fish and sometimes a small Indian frog. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus... did we mention the orange cat?

OLL LEWIS: Yesterday's News Today

Yesterday’s News Today
http://cryptozoologynews.blogspot.com/

On this day in 2006 Saddam Hussain was executed. Undoubtedly the world can do without a dictator who embezzled most of his country's finances to build a solid gold house, gassed any troublemakers and tortured his enemies by feeding them into a wood chipper alive, but the war that ousted him was illegal, based on lies and probably resulted in more terrorist-related deaths and injuries than Saddam could have dreamt of in his wet dreams.

And now the news:

  • Endangered species could be screwed by rising seas...
  • Watch out for cat burglars Denis ‘The Menace’ and ...
  • Here’s where to go if you want to find a deformed ...
  • Fungus discovery offers pine-wilt hope
  • Just like that! Meet Mother Nature's magicians
  • Australia to monitor Japan's Antarctica whale hunt...
  • Charity Appeal: Kenya's daily battle between human...

  • Madagascar's forests vanish to feed taste for rose...

  • Saddam Hussain was apparently a fan of the Coen Brothers; who knew? (grim clip warning) :

FORTEAN BIRD NEWS FROM THE WATCHER OF THE SKIES

In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that whereas the study of out-of-place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot or lake monsters, it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean zoologist to be interested in.

So after about six months of regular postings on the main bloggo Corinna took the plunge and started a 'Watcher of the Skies' blog of her own as part of the CFZ Bloggo Network.

First of all I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to my blog this year and to Shawn Evidence for helping me out when I first got started blogging.

2013 had it's ups and downs, twists and turns, but overall there were some good things that happened in the Bigfoot world.

I started the blog in February and here are some of the popular posts of the year.

    FEBRUARY: Rick Dyer & Matilda

With the backing of Facebook Find Bigfoot, Rick Dyer solidifies his hoax and garners a decent-sized following. This was also a big month for his outspoken critics, including this blog. We focused a lot of our attention on exposing Tricky Dick. You can find more posts on this in the Hoax label of the blog.

RICK DYER GOES ON RECORD ABOUT ALL THE BIGFOOT SCAMS. In this show that took place in 2010 he talks about how he doesn't believe in Bigfoot and that it's all a big scam.

    Sunday afternoon is time
to do the Gonzo blogs in rhyme,
a job I do smiling (no shirking)
'cos its far better than working

Although my rhymes might make you barf

and when people question them I say
"it's cos it amuses me, OK?"

    And first a band I once saw gig;

with something that will make you dance
a great review that comes from France
    http://gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.com/2013/12/french-sky-architect-review.html

And now our cool 'Track of the Day',

And finally you know what I mean
    #58 of the magazine
we do is out, and its quite fine
you can read it all for free online

I always promised that the Gonzo Daily publishing empire would spread "into more traditionally magaziney areas", and I wasn't lying. Last night I sent out #58 of the Gonzo Weekly newsletter, together with all sorts of exciting new features, to nearly 2,000 subscribers.

Issue 58 features the lovely Crystal Grenade going through her debut album track by track, an exclusive interview with John Goodsall from Brand X, me having a crisis of conscience over trying to blag an expensive book, a new video from Auburn, a taster for the forthcoming Clearlight album, Doug Harr on his gigs of the year and more news, reviews, features and comments than you can shake a stick at. And its free.

So as not to miss next week's copy (and also to make an old hippy editor very happy) subscribe here.
