INAPPROPRIATE CORNER: Nazi Cafe: Indonesian Owner 'No Fan Of Hitler'


Indonesia's Nazi cafe
The owner of a Nazi-themed cafe in Indonesia has defended his decision to cover the walls with a flag bearing the swastika and a giant picture of Adolf Hitler, saying it has been good for business.
Staff at the Soldatenkaffee (Soldier Cafe) dress in Waffen-SS, Luftwaffe (air force) and Heer (army) uniforms, and can be seen posing in front of the building on its Facebook page.
The cafe, located in the West Java provincial capital of Bandung, one of Indonesia's tourist destination cities, has been open since April 2011.

In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that whereas the study of out-of-place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot or lake monsters, it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean zoologist to be interested in. So after about six months of regular postings on the main bloggo Corinna took the plunge and started a 'Watcher of the Skies' blog of her own as part of the CFZ Bloggo Network.

THE CRYPTODANE: The panther on the 11th fairway

Sightings of big cats are not especially common in Denmark, although we have had some from time to time – a few lynxes (strangely enough the most common type in Denmark), the odd panther, a lion or two and even a serval and a possible cheetah.

Now things (or should that be cats) are afoot again. About ten days ago, a girl wrote to the Danish natural history website “Fugle og Natur” (www.fugleognatur.dk) with her sighting of a big cat seen on a golf course north of the Danish capital Copenhagen.

Unfortunately her sighting was three weeks old at the time, so chances of finding tracks, hairs or any other physical remains were rather small, as the exact position of the animal at the time of the sighting could not be established.

THE GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN ENTERS STORMY TIMES?

Jon and Corinna have now set off for Kent, headed for that 'Summer of Love' festival that he mentioned yesterday. Graham doing the blogs this weekend, then.

Earlier, Jon asked me which weather forecasting site I use, as he'd looked at his two and the forecasts for Kent were both lousy. I told him my preferred site, and suggested he keep shopping around until he found a forecast that he actually liked!

And, well, he didn't seem very impressed by that idea...!

He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the orange cat?
