I should really stop pretending that I am not a hippy. Paul Whitrow, who is a dear friend of mine that I have known for the best part of thirty years, telephoned me yesterday. "Hey Man", he said. "I just wanted to telephone you and Corinna from this crop circle, to tell you I love you..."
Awwwwwwwwww. What a sweetie.

On this day in 1969 the actor Jack Black was born. Black's movie career can be discribed as a “mixed bag” as he has stared in some brilliant film like The Muppets, School of Rock, King Kong and Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, but has also stared in some of the worst films to ever be made like Be Kind Rewind.

I'M YER GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN
And so the summer is almost over. The Bank Holiday weekend has been and gone, and the kids go back to school next week. Life trundles on, and after the excitement of the Weird Weekend and my birthday, it is almost a relief to get back to wrestling with computers and dealing with the archiving. Tim and Graidi came to see us yesterday with the new CFZ infant. Dougal is absolutely delightful and Corinna, Prudence and I cooed over him. Prudence was particularly interested and treated him like a small puppy..
We start off with our daily visit to Thom the World Poet. I say 'Daily', but he was inadvertantly left out of yesterday's Gonzo Daily. Sorry Thom. I wonder if anyone would believe me if I told them that it is an old Devonshire superstition not to allow poems on August Bank Holiday? Probably not.

Another of GONG frontman Daevid Allen’s off-shoot projects, featuring Allen along with Graham Clark and Mark Robson. The acoustic periods in Daevid’s life have always coincided with periods of spiritual self initiation and renewal. Of course these themes are encoded in the music, so that listeners might access similar changes through osmosis. Named after his first album in 1969, Magic Brothers is the freshest and most human of his material to date. This morning I was greeted by an email from the Gonzo Cheesenfuhrer, Rob Ayling, and it contained those mystickal words: MAGICK BROTHERS TOUR DATES

We have another bunch of tour dates - this time for The Hawklords; a bunch of Hawkwind alumni who have resurrected a concept first mooted when the mother band were on hiatus back in the late 1970s.

I am still unreasonably pleased that Captain Beefheart remains a controversial character some years after his death, and decades after he ceased performing or recording. Some things, I believe, are just meant to be. Here is a typically confused review of his new Gonzo DVD...

Erik Norlander really is a massively talented dude. His two new CD/DVD de-luxe editions for Gonzo Multimedia are receiving the acclaim that they deserve all over the world and it is always a pleasure to be able to bring you another review.

As a rock music historian it is the minutiae of the music business over the last sixty years that both interests and entertains me most. If I had ever gone onto 'Mastermind' my specialist subject would not have been cryptozoology (my day job) but something about rock music trivia. You will, therefore, see why I was so happy to repost this article about Jefferson Starship's cover art...
