WELCOME TO THE BLOGGO

It is with great pleasure, and mild embarrassment that I welcome a new blog to the CFZ blog network. I first offered Dale Drinnon his own CFZ blog two years ago, and then promptly forgot all about it. I did the same thing a year later, but now I have finally got around to it....
The first post is another Drinnon tour de force:
I had an early blog that spoke of a "Quetzalcoatl" reported by James Churchward in his Lost Continent of Mu books and that I thought was an Anhinga or Snakebird. And the blog posting includes the line: 'This version of the Flying serpent is actually also demonstrable in Mexican folklore and said to raid livestock. That tradition would also be based on sightings of anhingas.'Read on...

HERPETOFAUNA MONITORING COURSE
Dear all,
As SEH-conservation committee we are pleased to announce a two-days course (September 24-25) on herpetofauna monitoring.The course will be held at the National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg prior the 16th European Congress of Herpetology.
The course is aimed at European herpetologists, conservation professionals, and people working in environmental policy who design and run monitoring programs. The aim of the course is to highlight key issues when designing and running monitoring programs. This includes the conceptual and political background for monitoring programs, an overview of field methods and an introduction to methods for data analysis. Additionally, on-going projects will be presented.
Information on the course (topics of the course and speakers), on the registration cost, and on the registration documents needed can be found on the blog of the SEH-CC (http://www.seh-cc.org/blogs/blog2.php/2011/02/14/herpetofauna-monitoring-course-organized-by-the-seh-conservation-committee) and soon on our website under "news"(http://seh-cc.org/news.shtml).

OWL ATTACK
This story is only of minor interest. However, anyone who has read my 2006 book Strength through Koi, which, despite being largely nonsense, has the best title I have ever come up with, will know that one of the few true episodes recounted therein was when I was called in to investigate missing koi carp in Mawnan Smith near Falmouth in 1999. Hmmmm. So owls do take koi....
NEWQUAY ZOO 1979
As readers of my inky-fingered scribblings will know, I have always been interested in an incident at Newquay Zoo in the late 1970s, when a number of animals including geese and wallabies, were attacked. I cover the matter in some depth in my book The Owlman and Others. During my recent bout of flu someone was kind enough to send me this press cutting.
