Curses - they've got me! A week ago a barbary macaque decided it didn't like the look of the vet coming to inoculate him and his mates at the Givskud Zoo in western Denmark. So off he went on a walkabout in the countryside around the zoo. Time and again the zoo staff tried to corner the macaque and catch him, and time and again he gave them the slip. But this morning, whilst drinking from a puddle, the vet got him in the backside with a tranquiliser dart, so now he is finally back behind bars - apparantly none the worse for wear. MAYA: People of the Corn
http://www.peopleofthecorn.eu/On Friday night, despite the rigours of flu, Graham, Corinna and I went to the Plough Arts Centre, Torrington, for the opening night of an exhibition: Maya: People of the Corn by Henry Hartley and Weronika Mliczewska. They spent seven months amongst the Maya people of Mexico, and the resulting films and photographs are fascinating. Talking to Henry for a few minutes (for OTT) I learned that there is a lot of stuff of fortean interest, so we have asked them to come to the Weird Weekend and talk about it....
The exhibition is on until the end of the month.

This news item from Reuters gladdened my heart and brought a big smile to my face. I hope the fox was not badly wounded and makes a speedy recovery, which is considerably more than I wish the man.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A wounded fox shot its would be killer in Belarus by pulling the trigger on the hunter's gun as the pair scuffled after the man tried to finish the animal off with the butt of the rifle, media said Thursday.
The unnamed hunter, who had approached the fox after wounding it from a distance, was in hospital with a leg wound, while the fox made its escape, media said, citing prosecutors from the Grodno region.
"The animal fiercely resisted and in the struggle accidentally pulled the trigger with its paw," one prosecutor was quoted as saying.
Fox-hunting is popular in the picturesque farming region of northwestern Belarus which borders Poland.

I know this is not strictly allowed but we need your help - on Wednesday 12th Jan between 7.00 - 8.00 pm a brindle whippet bitch and her five four week old pups were stollen from their basket at home - the Mum is a very well known dog and very popular amongst the people in the area and the lady that owns her is beside herself with worry. If you have been offered a very young pup or know of anyone who has suddenly become the owner of such a dog please either contact me or the Taunton police - the crime number is 4842/11It is believed the thieves came from the Exeter area.Thank you for reading and please tell your friends
